Funded by National
Crime Strategy, the Business Police Academy
(BPA) is a crime prevention initiative specifically developed
for the business community. Through the BPA, local businesses
with the police, address crime prevention issues that businesses
confront on a daily basis. In the classroom the business
community learns more about business related crime and most
importantly practical crime prevention strategies.
Program topics were designed by the London
Police Service in consultation with the business community
and address the most commonly identified concerns. Merchants
and businesses learn through classroom lectures, guest speakers,
facilitated discussion groups and live demonstrations. Participants
also have the opportunity to observe the police working
in the community.
One high priority goal of Old
East Village BIA Crime Prevention Initiative is to create
a safe and vibrant commercial corridor, at the heart of
an inclusive community, where more people shop, work, live
and have fun. In order to accomplish this, the BIA has become
and active partner, leader and resource in crime prevention.
