City of London By-Law Enforcement Unit and Environmental Services
The BIA has linked with these City of London services to develop a community driven education, support and reporting program. This program will involve corridor stakeholders in clean up and beautification initiatives, a graffiti eradication and prevention program and a proactive by-law enforcement program.
City of London Housing Division
The Housing Division has partnered with the BIA to pilot an affordable housing program which will convert existing second and third floor commercial property into housing units. Their role is to:
Provide funding
Provide housing consultant services to develop the housing model.
Link with Canada Mortgage and Housing to assist property owners to access funding.
The objectives of the Job Creation program are to assist Employment Insurance eligible individuals with networking opportunities and skills development to obtain and maintain fulltime employment. grant from the London Community Foundation has contributed to the production and distribution costs of a video which describes the Revitalization Study. The video will be used as an evaluation and marketing tool.
HRDC will be funding the Old East London Village Commercial Corridor Transition and Revitalization Study for one year to help with over head cost and the setup of the BIA offices.
Through the Federal HRDC Job Creation Partnership program, Three positions have been created to help the community develop and act upon the plan.
The London Police Services, Crime Prevention and Community Services Unit has created a business focused crime prevention and community safety education program. Targeted at the business community and the residential community on the Dundas Street commercial corridor, the program will educate and recruit local businesses, residents and area stakeholders to address identified crime and safety issues.
The Old East Village Community Association (OEVCA) was formed to aid and empower residents of our neighbourhood through advocacy, education and community involvement in order to establish a positive and healthy relationship with each other and with our city.
Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI), Planners Action Team
PACT consists of members of the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) who have banded together to volunteer their professional experience and advice to help a community in need. These volunteers consist of a diverse range of professionals, including municipal planners, private-sector planning consultants, development analysts and urban design specialists. The team also includes a number of planning students. The Ontario Professional Planners Institute are the recognized voice of the province's planning profession.
(PACT) The OPPI Planners Action Team is conducting an inventory and analysis of the commercial corridor between Adelaide Street and Egerton Street to give it's partners a planning professional's perspective on the area and possible opportunities for revitalization and redevelopment. The PACT stresses the fact that there is no “Silver Bullet” solution to revitalize any such district and that their role will be to provide a starting point upon which to build.
On October 18 2002 the Western Fair funded the “Our Village” Presentation of Focus Group Findings held at the Aeolian Hall. With the grant from the Western Fair Association the Old East Village BIA was able to present a play from the London Community Players, music from the London Community Orchestra and the London Youth Orchestra as well as an array of ethnic foods provided by local area restaurants.
