The ‘More than a Main Street’ series spotlights the businesses in Old East Village that make it a vibrant community. If you are craving burgers and fries, then this week’s feature is for you. Located just at the corner of Dundas and Elizabeth Streets, we have Maymo’s Fry run by the queen of comfort food: Roxanne Talbot—also known as Foxy Roxy.

On their regular menu, Maymo’s Fry serves up fries, burgers, and gravy poutines that all get rave reviews. Maymo’s also runs daily specials that can add onion rings, fish and chips, and special, fully loaded poutines for a limited time. If you want something sweet, you can order ice cream cones and soda pop floats too! The next time you’re in OEV, stop by Maymo’s Fry and see what Roxanne is cooking—you won’t be disappointed!

How long have you been in business? How many years in Old East Village?

This is my fourth season in business, so it has been three-and-a-half years. All of that has been in OEV. Maymo’s has been in Old East Village for six years.

What makes your business unique?

The food is awesome. I make my food with love—that’s what people say. That’s what makes it taste so good.

What drew you to the neighbourhood?

I live at Adelaide and Hamilton. I’ve been in Old East Village for 30 years and it’s where I belong.

What is your favourite part about Old East Village?

I like how well we all look out for each other in OEV. We stick together. We are a true community.

Can you tell me a fun fact about yourself?

I love people. I love to cook and I love customer service so this is what I am meant to do.

What is your most popular menu item?

Our poutine and burgers are popular, but the most popular thing we serve is a special. We do a “fry supreme” which is ground beef, nacho cheese sauce, green onions, tomatoes and sour cream on french fries. They call it heaven in a box.
